Wind Generator Plans

Hi there, I’m Tony, and I’d like to tell you a little about my experience with converting to wind power to supply my electricity needs.

For some time I had been looking for ways to reduce my monthly outgoings which seemed to be rising at a greater rate than my income. When looking through things in greater detail I found that my energy bills seemed to be the ones that were spiralling out of control. I decided then that this was the area that I could most probably do something about, and set about looking for ways to reduce my energy bills.

At first I spent a lot of time going round turning lights and appliances off, only to find that members of my family were going around behind me and turning them on again as they wanted to use them. I soon realised that this wasn’t going to work and that I would have to look elsewhere to achieve the savings that I was hoping for.

Where I live on the East Coast of the UK, I had noticed that over recent years there had been an increasing number of Wind Turbines appearing, not only on land but also out at sea. This gave me the idea that wind power could be the answer for me, so I started to look at the available possibilities.

I started to price the whole project up using ready made wind turbines and getting them professionally installed and soon realised that this method was going to be out of my price range at that time. While looking through the search engines on the internet looking for information on wind power I came across several sites advertising diy wind turbines, and as I’m always looking for ways to save money these caught my eye and my imagination.

I found a few sites that were offering step by step guides on how to build your own wind turbine and all the points that you should look for, such as local wind speeds and how to design and build your own wind turbine blades. After looking at several of these sites in greater detail I came across one which impressed me over the others, Green Power Easy. As well as giving you step by step instructions they also gave you video back up, so that you can see exactly what you should be doing.

Once the decision was made to attempt my own diy wind power conversion I purchased the guide from Green Power Easy, and with the help that the guide gave me I began planning my project. I have quite a large workshop which I use for my business as a picture framer, and although the machinery that I use is manually operated I do use a lot of lights, some of which are quite high powered so that I can see what I am doing, so I decided to start by setting up a wind turbine just to power my workshop. I checked out the wind speeds locally and found that they were within the limits required so I then started to build my diy wind generator.

After a few weeks of hard work I am now enjoying the benefits of free electricity throughout my workshop. Of course, I still use the power companies services should the wind not blow for a few days, but normally there is enough power saved in the battery bank to keep me going for a while before I have to switch over and start incurring energy costs again.

The costs of carrying out my own conversion to wind power, thanks to the help and advice given in the Green Power Easy guide, were far less than I expected, spending 100′s and not 1000′s for a ready made system. My next plan is to build another wind turbine for powering my home and become entirely off grid.

Also included in the Green Power Easy guide are full instructions on how to build your own diy solar power system, should you think that this is a better option for you.
If you are looking for ways to reduce your home energy bills why not take a look at the Green Power Easy site, it may help you to decide the best way for you.

How to build a wind turbine using a DC motor

If you are thinking of how to build a wind turbine, so that you can save money on your energy bills and look after the environment at the same time, one of the main points to consider is your choice of motor to use. A cost effective way is by using a DC motor to generate the power you need from a windmill application. This is one of the main items to consider, get this right and the rest is quite straightforward.
It isn’t that hard to build a wind turbine yourself. You will find that there are a number of superb guides available that will take you through each step of the process, most of which will include illustrations so that you can see exactly what you should be doing. One of the least expensive methods to build a wind turbine for home use suggested by a number of manuals is by using a DC motor.Where people often come up against problems when carrying out this type of project is in their choice of DC motor that they have obtained for use in their diy wind generator. If you are considering trying to build a wind turbine it is well worth taking the time to ensure that you find the right motor to generate the power that you need. You will probably know, a DC motor is an electrical device that is used to power things with electricity. Current from a battery is sent to the motor which rotates, which in turn powers the item that it is connected to. One of the most common examples is a starter motor on a vehicle. What a lot of people may not know is that the magnets used to turn the motor when connected to a power source can be used to generate electricity if the motor turns the other way. This fact alone makes using a DC motor the ideal choice for someone considering wind turbines for the home. The most important point is to ensure that you pick the correct motor at the start of your project.

There are just two main essentials to consider when you set out to build a wind turbine using a DC motor.

The first one is Voltage. Ideally a 30volt motor should be used, but anything over 20 volts will get you out of trouble.

The other point to look for is RPM (revs per minute). What you will be looking for is a motor with a relatively low RPM. A DC motor with a high RPM will have difficulty in reaching the speed required using wind power. If you can find a 30 volt DC motor with a RPM of 1200 this should suffice. With a wind speed of 20mph the motor should generate 12 volts of power. This may not sound like a lot but don’t forget, this is only one component of your project to build a wind turbine. In conjunction with the other parts that you use you will be able to generate enough electricity to supply part or all of your power needs.

Wind Generator Plans – How to begin

If you are considering converting your house or business over to Wind Power, either to supply 100% of your energy needs, or just to supplement your existing power supply in order to reduce your total energy costs, one of the first things you should do is invest in a set of Wind Generator Plans, which will detail all the points that you will need to take into account before deciding if it is a feasible proposition for your particular situation.
With the continual increase in the cost of the fuels required to generate electricity, together with the ever growing need for us all to cut down on our usage of fossil fuels to help reduce the effects of global warming , now is the perfect time for you to start considering other methods for powering your home.

One of the main points to think about is the area in which you live. Obviously a windmill will require wind, therefore the wind speeds in your area need to be looked at. Ideally you will be looking for an average wind speed of 12 mph. Details of where to go to research this item would be included in your wind generator plans. Should you establish that you do not live in a suitable area for wind power, you could consider homemade solar cells as an alternative.

You will need to establish exactly how much power your home is using now. It may be worth taking this opportunity of looking at your appliances and see if there are alternatives available that take less power, such as low power light bulbs and energy efficient fridges and freezers. This will reduce your overall power needs which will, in turn, cut down on the costs of building your own generating plant.

Power generated from wind turbines will need some form of storage facility, especially if you are intending to be self sufficient in your energy needs. This is not so much of a problem if you are only intending using your home built system to supplement your main power supply, as you can always revert back to this should there not be sufficient wind available. The method of storing the unused energy is by the use of an array of batteries, which can be designed to store as little or as much power as you need, dependent on your individual requirements. How to calculate the power that you will need and the amount of storage you will require will be included within your wind generator plans.

For further information on what is required and if it’s the right choice for you, why not get yourself some wind generator plans now. To find out how easy it is to get started on this project checkout greenpowereasy.com

Building a wind generator is a great project for your family. Spend weekend learning about the benefits of wind power verses electricity produced at a plant and teach this to your children. Understand and verbalize the responsibility we have to our community and the environment around us. Devote the weekend to working together to build your wind powered generator. Give everyone a specific duty and allow them to take pride in their craftsmanship. This is a great way to spend some quality time as a family, learning new things and working together. The adults will save money while teaching their children valuable lessons.

Many people are turning to Wind Generators to provide power to their homes. These generators cost little to build and can be constructed in one weekend, in some cases. With a simple to understand set of plans and some positive thinking, you two can build a wind powered generated for your home that will produce free wind energy for your home for years.

For the first time builder, it is important to become familiar with the different parts of the wind powered generator and what all it entails. Familiarize yourself with the distinct parts of the generator. These parts consist of the blades, hub, body, towel and the tower for the wind generator.

Building the blades and hub are by far the most time consuming part of the entire project. Once these two parts are built, you are well on your well. The blades and hub are not difficult to build; they just take time and patience. Grab a buddy or make this a father-son project. The material you will need to build the blades and hub are easily accessible. You might even be able to obtain the blade material for free. Ask around, you may be surprised. While you are building these parts, order the motor for the wind generators.

If you order it in the beginning you will not have to wait around for it after the blades and hub are completed. The motor is the heart of the generator and is what converts the wind to energy. If you are environmentally conscious, as many of us should be, consider building the body and tail of your generator from recycled material. Recycled stainless steel, double wall chimney pipe is a great material to use as the body for the wind generator. This material can be obtained from your local chimney installer or from a dealer that sells wood stoves. Furnace dealers may have this recycled material, as well. Stainless steel is a great metal that protects the motor and internal moving parts.

Let your artistic flair shine through when designing your wind generator tail. Think of a funky theme or paint the tail a fun, bright color. You can paint is to match the color of your house or stencil your last name on it. The sky is the limit. Make it fun and pleasing to look at. Ask your children for ideas and let them participate. They will take pride in the work they accomplished and the good your wind generator is doing for the environment.

Wind power home electrical generators have previously been expensive, but they are quickly becoming competitively priced alternatives to other energy resources. There are various regulations that may impede someone trying to purchase and install wind generators, but there is usually a best fit for everyone. Wind generated power provides cheap energy and provides an attractive alternative for our home energy needs.
